A Guide to Our Six Aromatherapy Rollers
A simple guide to the scent and intention behind every 33 North blend.
Some days call for stillness. Others need a spark.

I created the 33 North aromatherapy rollers for the small moments between those two places: when you want to set down the day, begin again, or carry a little of the massage-room experience home with you.
Each blend begins with organic jojoba oil and its own combination of essential oils. Some are earthy and quiet. Others are bright, cooling, warm, or floral. This guide will help you choose by scent and intention while learning what every oil contributes.
These rollers are personal-fragrance and cosmetic rituals, not medical treatments. Aromatherapy research is still developing, and studies of individual oils do not prove that a finished blend will produce the same results.
Which blend fits your moment?
- Ground & Glow: when you want a steady, earthy scent
- Vital Flow: when the moment needs brightness and momentum
- Root & Rise: when you want a cool scalp and focus ritual
- Radiant Release: when you are craving a crisp, clean reset
- Sculpted Serenity: when you want to soften the pace
- Inner Harmony: when the moment calls for warmth and tenderness
Ground & Glow
Cedarwood · Vetiver · Clary Sage · Bergamot
Ground & Glow feels like stepping out of noise and onto solid ground. Its woods and roots create a deep, steady base, while bergamot brings in just enough light. I reach for this kind of aroma before journaling, meditation, focused work, or a quiet transition at the end of a busy day.
- Cedarwood is dry, woody, and gently balsamic, giving the blend its steady foundation.
- Vetiver is smoky, earthy, and root-like, adding depth and weight.
- Clary sage is softly herbal and floral, connecting the heavy base notes to the citrus.
- Bergamot is a fresh citrus with a delicate floral edge, keeping the blend bright and balanced.
Small human studies have explored bergamot and clary-sage aromas in relation to mood and situational stress, but the evidence is limited and does not establish a treatment effect for this roller.
Vital Flow
Rosemary · Black Pepper · Grapefruit · Eucalyptus
Vital Flow is the brightest, most active scent in the collection. Rosemary and eucalyptus open with a clean herbal character, grapefruit adds sparkle, and black pepper leaves a soft warmth underneath. It is an easy choice for a slow morning, an afternoon reset, or the moment before you move from planning into action.
- Rosemary is green and camphoraceous, creating the blend’s focused herbal center.
- Black pepper is warm, dry, and gently spicy, adding depth without becoming heavy.
- Grapefruit is tart and slightly bitter, bringing brightness and contrast.
- Eucalyptus is cool and penetrating, giving the aroma a feeling of freshness and open space.
A controlled aroma study found that rosemary affected some measures of memory and alertness in healthy adults. That is an interesting short-term finding, not proof that Vital Flow improves cognition, circulation, or physical performance.
Root & Rise
Peppermint · Rosemary · Lavender
Root & Rise begins with a cool rush of peppermint, moves through rosemary’s green clarity, and settles into softer lavender. It was made as a refreshing scalp and focus ritual—something that makes the aroma feel clean and the moment feel newly started.
- Peppermint is cool, sharp, and menthol-rich, creating the blend’s immediate refreshing character.
- Rosemary reinforces the crisp herbal scent and gives the formula its traditional connection to scalp care.
- Lavender is floral and herbaceous, softening the sharper oils and completing the blend.
Rosemary has limited human research related to androgenetic hair loss, while a frequently repeated peppermint hair study was conducted in mice. Root & Rise has not been clinically tested for hair growth and should be described as a cosmetic scalp ritual, not a hair-loss treatment.
Radiant Release
Lemon · Peppermint · Juniper Berry · Cypress
Radiant Release feels like opening the windows. Lemon and peppermint arrive first—bright, cool, and immediate—while juniper berry and cypress create a dry evergreen finish. Choose it after travel, during an afternoon slump, or whenever you want a scent that feels light and uncluttered.
- Lemon is tart and sparkling, supplying the blend’s first flash of brightness.
- Peppermint adds a cool, awake edge to the citrus.
- Juniper berry is dry, green, and pine-like, creating the blend’s clean forest character.
- Cypress is fresh, woody, and resinous, grounding the citrus and mint in an evergreen base.
Claims about “detox,” lymphatic drainage, circulation, or removing toxins are not supported by good evidence for this roller. Here, “release” describes the emotional feeling and fresh aroma of the ritual.
Sculpted Serenity
Lavender · Frankincense · Geranium · Sweet Orange
Sculpted Serenity is the softest exhale in the collection. Lavender and geranium form a floral center, frankincense brings quiet depth, and sweet orange adds familiar warmth. It fits naturally into an evening routine, gentle stretching, a bath, or the slower hours following a massage.
- Lavender is floral, herbal, and softly sweet, forming the blend’s familiar center.
- Frankincense is dry, resinous, and citrus-tinged, giving the aroma depth and a contemplative quality.
- Geranium is rosy, green, and herbaceous, creating fullness between the lavender and orange.
- Sweet orange is warm and juicy, making the floral notes feel bright and approachable.
Some human studies report changes in anxiety or sleep measures after inhaling lavender, geranium, or sweet-orange aromas, while others find little or no benefit. Sculpted Serenity is best presented as a soft personal-fragrance ritual, not a sleep aid, anxiety treatment, or muscle relaxant.
Inner Harmony
Ylang Ylang · Rose · Sandalwood · Mandarin
Inner Harmony is the most floral and intimate blend. Ylang ylang is lush and expressive, rose brings softness, sandalwood creates a smooth foundation, and mandarin adds a gentle glow. Reach for it during self-care, reflection, or a moment when you want your surroundings to feel warm and comforting.
- Ylang ylang is rich, sweet, and floral, giving the blend its sensual center.
- Rose is honeyed and deeply floral, adding softness and emotional warmth.
- Sandalwood is creamy, woody, and long-lasting, anchoring the brighter flowers.
- Mandarin is gentle and sweet, lifting the blend without making it sharp.
Small human studies have associated ylang-ylang aroma with greater self-rated calmness, but rose research is mixed and evidence for sandalwood and mandarin remains limited. The blend invites a softer atmosphere; it does not create or treat an emotional state.
Why jojoba?
Every blend uses organic jojoba seed oil as its base. Jojoba spreads smoothly, has very little aroma of its own, and carries the essential oils while leaving the skin lightly conditioned. It also dilutes the concentrated essential oils, although diluted products can still cause irritation or allergy in sensitive people.
A simple, safe ritual
Choose the aroma that fits your intention, apply a small amount as directed, and pair it with one quiet action: take three slower breaths, stretch, write a sentence, or drink a glass of water.
For external use only. Do not ingest. Avoid the eyes, lips, inside of the nose, broken skin, and other sensitive areas. Patch test before use and stop if irritation occurs. Citrus peel oils may increase sun sensitivity depending on their extraction and concentration, so follow the product’s sunlight warnings. Keep rollers away from children and pets. Ask a qualified healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant, nursing, under medical care, or especially sensitive to fragrance.
Begin where you are
The value of an aroma does not have to depend on an exaggerated promise. Scent can mark a transition and remind you that the next moment can feel different from the last.
Ground & Glow is a return to center. Vital Flow brings brightness. Root & Rise feels like a fresh beginning. Radiant Release opens the windows. Sculpted Serenity softens the pace. Inner Harmony brings warmth back into the room.
The roller does not do the returning for you. It simply gives you a beautiful place to begin.
